HL7 INTERFACE

HL7 is a standard format in healthcare for exchanging clinical and administrative data.

The VistaKEANE HL7 Interface facilitates electronic communication between the computer systems of Long-Term Care providers and hospitals, as well as vendors such as pharmacy, lab, and dietary systems.

HL7 is an ANSI approved American National Standard. It was developed to provide for the exchange, management and integration of data that support clinical patient care and the management, delivery and evaluation of healthcare services.

The HL7 communications interface between the systems is TCP/IP. Other communications protocols will be supported as required by future client needs.

Examples of event messages the VistaKEANE HL7 Interface currently receives and/or sends:

• Admit, transfer, and discharge patient

• Medicare PPS billing data (RUG, Assessment Reference Date, Modifier)

• Update resident information

• Swap residents

• Bed status update

• Leave of absence/return from leave

• Merge patient ID numbers

Current and future versions of the VistaKEANE HL7 Interface are expected to cover the following areas:

• Order Entry (including specialized definitions for dietary, pharmacy, and vaccination records)

• Finance (including posting of patient charges)

• Observation Reporting (diagnostic)

• Medical Records/Information Management

• Master Tables
